A graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, Richard studied History and Philosophy at Boston College before earning his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law.Â
He began his legal career as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard W. English, J.S.C., in the Civil Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth County—an experience that provided direct exposure to one of the state’s busiest trial calendars and sharpened the courtroom instincts he relies on today.Â
This early training helped build his command of motion practice, evidentiary issues, and trial preparation—skills that continue to define his advocacy.Â

After his clerkship, Richard joined Schibell & Mennie LLC, where he practiced until his father’s retirement.
He later established Schibell Law, concentrating on personal injury, workers’ compensation, automobile negligence, premises liability, and medical malpractice.
Richard’s practice is anchored in meticulous motion work—compelling discovery, challenging experts, and preparing every matter as if it will be tried to verdict.
His reputation for disciplined preparation ensures clients have strong leverage in negotiations and a fully trial-ready case when litigation is necessary.
Before entering the law, Richard was a competitive swimmer and Belmar beach lifeguard, experiences that taught endurance, focus, and steadiness under pressure.
That background informs his respect for the physical demands of labor and his keen understanding of how injuries occur and affect the body. It also defines his litigation style: steady, exacting, and calm under scrutiny.
These experiences allow him to connect with injured workers and families on a personal level, translating their experiences into compelling legal arguments.
Richard has secured millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for New Jersey workers and families. Judges and peers recognize the clarity of his arguments; clients describe him as approachable, candid, and relentless in pursuit of their case. He takes every matter seriously, regardless of size or complexity, bringing careful preparation and unwavering attention to detail.
His results reflect a consistent commitment to protecting clients’ stability, financial security, and long-term recovery.Â
Outside the courtroom, Richard enjoys woodworking and home renovation, work that mirrors the patience and discipline he brings to legal advocacy.
He and his wife, Tina, live in Monmouth County with their five children—Richard C., Audrey, Charles, Nicholas, and Maximus. Family life grounds him and strengthens his commitment to protecting the stability of the families he represents.
Richard’s connection to the community reinforces the firm’s mission: providing disciplined, client-centered advocacy for New Jersey residents.
